Privacy policy
Effective 11 October 2026. This policy covers the PocketTape app for Android and iOS, published by Leng Song Quek, Singapore ("we").
The short version
- Your measurements stay on your phone. We have no accounts and no servers that receive them.
- Camera images are not recorded or uploaded. The camera is used live, on your phone, to work out distances.
- The free version shows ads from Google. Google collects some device data to do that. Details and your choices are below.
- Subscribing to Pro removes ads and the ad software is not started.
What the app uses, and why
| What | Why | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Camera | To measure distances in augmented reality. | Processed on your phone. Not stored, not sent anywhere. |
| Motion sensors | For the level, and to track the phone's movement while measuring. | Processed on your phone. Not stored, not sent anywhere. |
| Measurements you save, your unit and ruler calibration | So they are there next time. | Stored only on your phone. Deleted when you delete them or uninstall the app. |
| Advertising ID, IP address (which gives approximate location), device and app information, ad interactions, diagnostics | To show ads in the free version, limit how often you see an ad, measure ad performance and prevent fraud. | Collected by Google AdMob directly from your device. We do not receive it in a form that identifies you. |
| Purchase history and an anonymous app user ID | To unlock Pro and restore it on a new phone. | Processed by Apple or Google (payment) and by RevenueCat (subscription status). We never see your card details. |
We do not ask for your name, email address, contacts, photos, microphone or precise location.
Companies that process data for the app
- Google AdMob (ads, free version only). See how Google uses information from apps that use its services and Google's privacy policy.
- RevenueCat (subscription status). See RevenueCat's privacy policy.
- Apple App Store and Google Play (payments and app delivery), under their own privacy policies.
These companies are required by their own terms and by applicable law to protect the data they process. We do not sell personal data.
Your choices
- Ad consent. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and some US states, the app asks for your choice before showing ads. You can change it at any time under Settings › Ad privacy choices in the app.
- iPhone tracking permission. If you choose "Ask App Not to Track", ads are not personalised using your device's advertising identifier.
- Android. You can reset or delete your advertising ID under Settings › Privacy › Ads on your phone.
- No ads at all. PocketTape Pro removes ads.
- Camera. You can switch off camera access in your phone's settings. The ruler and level still work.
Keeping and deleting data
Everything the app itself stores is on your phone and is removed when you uninstall it. We hold no copy. To ask Google or RevenueCat about data they hold, use the links above, or email us and we will help you make the request.
Children
PocketTape is a general-audience tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Your rights and how to contact us
Depending on where you live (for example under Singapore's PDPA, the EU and UK GDPR, or US state laws) you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data, or to withdraw consent. Contact our data protection contact at bylosaz@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top, and for significant changes we will tell you in the app.
